Art Of the Month

April 5, 2013 at 5:06 pm

We at WAAM are infused with creativity, more so now than ever.  Everything we see and hear inspires us. We are driven by intense purpose to develop, invent, and refine this label’s approach to music and art. This energy also allows us to explore fertile new realms and fruitful collaborations.

One of new approaches to inspiration, ripe with possibility, is to analyze and document what is currently inspiring us.   Such deep and detailed analyses allow us to truly explore and to share with all of you, who, why, and what is planting the seeds of ideas within our minds.  Influences, their impact, and the method in which they inspire, is the impetus driving our new “Art of The Month” section of our blog.

“Art of The Month” establishes a forum where we can share our inspirations with all of you.  Here, we can share art, trade stories, make connections, and extrapolate and create new ideas together. We hope that you are inspired, participate, and help us to expand our creative selves.

Midheaven / Revolver USA Distribution

March 5, 2013 at 5:14 pm

After weeks of waiting patiently, albeit with moments of sheer anxiety, We Are All Machines landed their first distribution contract with Revolver USA, for our inaugural release, “The Siege – Conditions”.  Based out of San Francisco, Revolver is a west-coast independent music distribution company that specializes in the total musical compass, all things awesome.   From Stereolab and The Jesus and Mary Chain, to Baths and the Black Lips, one quick perusal of their online catalog and you’ll likely to find your bank account greatly diminished.  On the bright side of things, at least you’ll have the best record collection on the block.

“Conditions” will be made available to all purchasers of vinyl on April 16th 2013.  Records may be acquired directly through Revolver’s mail-order website, Midheaven, or will most likely be found at your local record boutique.  Additional purchases may also be made through our WAAM Shop.

WAAM01 Album Preview

January 29, 2013 at 5:31 am

It felt like only yesterday that The Siege were following their interests in music, ruminating and dreaming of the day they’d publish their own original works.   Since this time, a time of fervor and angst and dedication, The Siege has forged ahead with this dream, creating a series of releases that exhibit their signature blend of doom guitar (bass and melodic), syncopating drums, and neuro-crazy-synth machine madness; the kind of madness that frees the constraints of the mind and renders time useless.

However gradual or fleeting a passing of memory, brothers Drew Pompa and Pipé Scuttleworth have made great use of this time by creating the We Are All Machines label; a new artistic direction that has propelled them far beyond the creative boundaries of their past.  Their new sense of ardor, along with a newly created enterprise, has redefined their approach to music and art.  If you like the drones and you like the drums, then you know their vigor has permeated every aspect of their newest release, “Conditions.”  Below is a sample of the album.  The release date is scheduled for April 16, 2013.

Aphotic Segment @ The Sugar House

January 28, 2013 at 6:52 pm

The Sugar House is one of Detroit’s newest watering holes.  They serve a bevy of flips, fizzes, classics and craft cocktails, where the crew of bartenders effortlessly blends spirits that are both boozy and packed with flavor, lots of flavor.  The décor is both subtly understated and stylish; a chandelier with its brass bothria illuminating the mullions dissecting the Michigan Avenue window panes is juxtaposed by the dimly-lit and unassuming tables pushed up against exposed brick walls, adorned with a variety of taxidermic Bovidae heads.  It all gives the impression that patrons have options that range from rare whiskeys and Italian Amaros to canned beer.

Even better, this fine establishment plays host to a local record collector’s leisurely party of listening pleasures every unsuspecting Sunday night.  Chad Pratt, of Ghostly International’s Midwest Product, plays musically diverse sets  that traverse throughout rare soul, funk, post-punk, new-wave and electronic.  Though the craft cocktail parades itself in stunning, Manhattan and New Orleanian glory at the bar, the music shambles with odd grace by your eardrum at an approachable and convivial gait. On a regular Sunday night at the Sugar House, music and intimate atmosphere balance in measured harmony, much like subtly paired aperitifs and ryes; a mélange of flavor and booziness.   Sounds like an Aphotic Segment!

The Siege’s Drew Pompa will be joining Chad on Sunday, February 10th for a night of music, libations, laughs and retrospection.
